Jeanne-Marie Leroux

Senior Director, Finance & Grants

Jeanne-Marie (Jaja) comes to Mighty Earth with over 20 years of financial and business management experience. Her professional life began as the youngest flight attendant with Pan American World Airways. After seven years, Jaja came back down to earth landing a job at World Wildlife Fund as assistant to the VP for Latin America and the Caribbean. It was her time at WWF where she discovered a passion for the environment and nonprofit work.

While marriage put the nonprofit passion on hold and for 12 years, Jaja managed the financial and administrative end of Annapolis Performance Sailing, a retail and mail-order business she owned with her former husband. In December 2011, a series of fortunate events presented her with the opportunity to return to the nonprofit world and the rest, as they say, is history.

For the last decade, Jaja served as Director of Finance and managed Human Resources at the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay, a nonprofit based in Annapolis, MD. During her tenure, she helped the organization grow from a staff of 12 with a budget of $2 million to a staff of 50 with a budget of nearly $16 million. With leadership and board approval, she negotiated and obtained benefits for staff including paid medical, dental and vision insurance, and established a matching retirement plan. These efforts helped increase staff retention to more than 90% annually while increasing indirect recovery on the Alliance’s grants. She assisted with a structural reorganization in 2020 and in 2021 led the design, build and migration of a new accounting/grants management system.

Nonprofit finance may not be the sexy part of the business, but it provides the foundation for her colleagues to pursue Mighty Earth’s mission so that her daughters and future generations will have a planet to call home.
